Sugar Daddy was nursing a beer when I arrived. I handed my
run fees to NoNo and waited, along with a Peruvian-looking katoey from down
the street. The three visiting US teachers from Japan showed up demanding to
know where Hash Habberdash was. She wasn’t, so I conned them out of about
3800 baht and they were appeased. (Noriega take note: Instead of wasting
time trying to get into their pants just be nice and they will give you
money).
The trail led us down Convent across Sathorn towards the
Dept. Of Immigration. Tickler didn’t want to go there so he disappeared
somewhere else but…. Left before Immigration and up towards the Assumption
Association where the trail went left but Dodic/KC and crew who did not want
to let anyone get in front of them kept running up a little Karaoke filled
alley until cooler heads prevailed. I eventually passed Tambourine man
(walking) for the 4th time. Past the Malaysia Hotel and Wong’s Place.
Eventually we crossed Rama 4 and headed into the Night Bazaars where Ball
Slapper and friend decided to forsake the trail for a while in favour of
window shopping, maybe she was waiting for Tickler? This did cause some to
run off trail for a while.
Into Lumpini and straight out again to a check. Up until
this point the pack had stayed mostly together but now some checked Lang
Suan some towards Ratcadamri BTS etc.. The real trail continued through
Chula onto Henry-something and down Surawong but most could see the lights
of the Dusit Hotel beckoning so took a shortcut through the park and back to
the bar.
This is where the run gets a bit hazy. Dodic presented the
GM with the mandatory Patches from Korea, (Note to self. Hmm sound like a
movie title there) the US teachers were mussing about the same old down-down
song over and over. Apparently in Japan they have more than one. Gontier was
being well Gontier, Dunkin Donut, also French, was seen to stiffen as we
sang Ou est le papier? Apparently his Frenglish is not that good and he
though it was the anthem. POW contenders include Love Canal for installing a
runway beacon in the centre of AKM’s circle, KC for buying Hungry Bum a
diamond and ????. KC won as usual and was forced to do his down-down on his
one good knee.
The On On On was an order it and pay yourself affair in
the bar, which was OK had it not been for the fact that no one prepped the
cook and someone?? had given the second cook the night off!!! Most then
decamped to shower before returning to see in the New Year. I left while AKM
was still waiting for his Aussie Burger and Canal Rapee was polishing off a
wrongly prepared plate of pasta which Noriega had shoved in front of him.
All night all eyes were on Sugar Daddy who had fallen off his stool at the
S2H3 Xmas Party to make sure he didn’t complete the “Double Header”. ….
