Run:- 1290                     Date:- 10 December 2007.
Location:- Northern end of Ratchapruk Road
Hare:- Steve "Tastes Great" F
Scribe:- Maverick

This week’s run was held on “Constitution Day”. A strange anachronism, as the country is on its 17th constitution since it got its first one in 1932. Fortunately the date of this holiday remains the same, even though the constitution doesn’t.  The fact the day was a holiday meant that we had a larger than usual pack, and there were no less than eight of us sharing taxis from Sukhumvit. The traffic was light and we covered the 30km in about 30 minutes. The runsite was the very large concrete car park of a very small restaurant at the top end of Ratchapruk Road. For once the car park was large enough to accommodate all the Hash cars and the cars of the few customers the restaurant had, and there was no whistling car park attendant to disturb us (Raincoat, where were you?).

Before the run most engaged in the usual social banter, but a group gathered round Noriega’s classic BMW and peered under the bonnet (hood for our American cousins, of which there were a lot present). I later learnt that it had electrical problems, so I hope he had plenty of passengers to push him back to Silom after the run. Bogdiver, taking his trailmaster duties seriously came up to me and accused me of not sending him the mis-directions for next week’s run (On Golden Pond, Krungthep Kreeta Road, see you there) closely followed by 4x2 who kindly reminded me that I was due to do the write-up this week. As the clock rolled over to 5:15 there was no sign of a hare or co-hare, but our new GM ÇAnal Rapeé ably called the pack to order and told us to set off – wherever the paper was (ref chapter 2 of “GM’ing for Dummies”).

The trail started off pleasantly enough down a concrete lane and soon turned left to a predictable back check. However, it wasn’t long before it left the road and went onto the small bunds between the rice paddies. With the wonders of modern irrigation there was lots of shiggy despite the rainy season having ended more than a month ago. Hashers were spread out all over the place looking for a path that would have the least shiggy. At one point KKB could be seen stumbling around in the mud as if he’d had a bellyful of Chiang before the run started.

We had a brief respite from the paddy fields as we went through a cluster of houses, but there was a large number – even by Thai standards - of nasty dogs yapping and threatening the hashers who had to run the gauntlet. After that small intermission it was back to the rice fields and more shiggy. The hare thoughtfully added a short stretch of thigh-deep water so we could wash off all the shiggy we’d accumulated. A bit further on the trail split – OnOn to the left, OnIn Shortcut to the right. Yours truly took the left trail, but at the next check came across the shortcut trail and followed that back to the beer wagon, arriving just as the light began to go. The longer trail was only an extra km, so the rest of the pack as well were soon back.

Bogdiver had removed his in-car bathing facilities so he could bring the all-important piss, and social drinking commenced accompanied by much swatting of mosquitoes. In the circle the run was voted a good run, the usual miscreants were called in to pay penance, and Prick of the Week went to Hashendale for making his own very personal contribution to the shiggy. If your running shoes smell worse than usual, you now know why!

Surprisingly the OnOnOn was not held at the restaurant we were parked outside but one down the road. When the hare started to describe how to get to the OnOnOn I thought he was starting to tell AKM’s favourite joke (go all the way round the houses and end up back here), but it turned out it was no joke.

Thanks to Tastes Great who single-handedly set this excellent run – just how Hashing should be.

OnOn to Krungthep Kreeta.
