First, a few thoughts about visitors … it is always nice to have a couple of / a few people drop in to our runs. Interhash brought loads of them, and with them the problems of dealing with large numbers of people with all of their nuances and strange hash habits and attire from around the world. So thanks to all of our members for welcoming, taking care of and tolerating all these people. We had several wierdos, one hospital case due to dehydration, a bunch of Ozzies who wanted to skip the circle and "get back to Noriega's and several who did not pay or tried to avoid paying. I thought that they would all have gone home by the time of the AGM, but no. So thanks to those visitors who came and helped subsidise our AGM.
But for the battle with the noise of the Chonburi Motorway, now full of airport traffic and the busy service road during the rush hour, Sanya Restaurant works for a big event. 74 of us came to the event, Spinning Dwarf, our able Hash Cash was busy enforcing the rules on membership and being overruled in one cases by me as a last final abuse of executive power.
I didn't actually do the run. I am sure it was fine, most people seemed very happy. Half an hour into the run an American Harriette turned up late looking very flustered. 'Will catch them up?' she asked. Probably not I told her and then explained that it was a special day, 600 baht for visitors etc etc. She then tried to tell me that she did not drink, did not want to stay for the ONONON, but wanted a souvenir t-shirt. She then told me the directions were crap, that we should have a central number to call to arrange lifts, we should publicise the telephone number of the restaurant and print a map for visitors and that she should not have to pay 600 baht. Was I in the mood for this? No. I politely told her it was 600 baht if she wanted to stay and join us, but she declined the offer, turned around and got into the next passing taxi. I then reflected that the front of the t-shirt was semi-dedicated to the likes of her.
In trying to save costs for the hash we ordered a range of sizes and colours from what was available from stock. That's when the BMH3 members started to get interesting.
Why don't you have an L in blue? The XL is more like an L. The yellow XL is bigger then the gray XL. Can I take one for "so and so" who is not here today? What a bunch of vultures. Of note, Cha Cha went through every single permutation over a 10 minute period. Ajarn Kee Mao, hater of large crowds refused to queue for a shirt (as he refuses to queue for food).
Beer was taken care of by the Heineken/Tiger team of boys and a couple of pretties, now in toned down dresses with no logos in anticipation of the advertising ban on alcohol next month. This created confusion amongst hashers who were looking for Heinekens in a sea of Tiger and vice versa. I think one day we should order kegs of both and switch then round and just see who notices the difference.
You will notice the difference between the regular beers when compared with Singha Light. Imelda and Interhash 2006 donated a stack of cases to the hashes, including 10 to us. We drunk several cases, gave some away and left some with the Hash Pisses. It is amazing how popular things become when they are free!
The pretties lined up a table with lots of beer. Several members were worried about the amount of beer and if we would get through them all. Did I care? No. The last day of being GM you do not care about anything other than being able to sit down when it is over and having another Tiger (or was it Heineken?). Low attendance members were given drinks, one new boot - Yat from the Bank was introduced, those not wearing the t-shirts were given a beer that helped clear the stock. The RA and his assistants all took turns in the circle. Canal Rapee set up an icy sin bin – a first for this year as a last defiant show of power and put Oversexed in it. Hash Hash gave some beers away for offences committed months ago and Ajarn Kee Mao orchestrated Imelda to be POTW.
Then on to the buffet which, and mentioned before AKM refused to either queue for or eat. "I prefer to be served" and by the way … "eating is cheating".
Post buffet, more were beers set up and the handover from old to new committee. No Good Boyo, the new GM started with a song, then went on with another song and I suddenly realized what we may be getting ourselves in for over the next 12 months.
As people slowly went home the usual crowd of late night Monday stragglers remained. Out came the 100 bahts, and we got stuck into the restaurant's beer. True hashers. They know who they are, and I thank them for their continued excellent company over the last year.
