In the absence of anyone in authority ‘Nogoodboyo’ instructed ‘Lenscap’ to get the runners on their way immediately as it had taken Lenscap 2 hours to set the run. So the prognostication was that many would come back in the dark – as they did…

There were a number of looping loops which confused many because as I ran in on a 30 minute loop, gently massaging my sore Achilles tendon, I came across a few front runners coming the other way having got back to the start within 15 minutes. However, those who were dedicated enough set out to complete the trail the correct way. Tom Ellefsen who arrived late just went out and did it in just over an hour and George Morgan who also arrived late (quelle surprise!) got back in less than an hour. But let’s be fair, George is never the one to give up and take a beer in hand without doing any of the run and it does take guts to go out on your own when you arrive 30 minutes late! I saw only ‘DickusErectus’ and family walking in with Crash Daly and Malinee. ‘Knickerless’ and ‘Hungry Bum’ were also in this short loop close to home and decided to jog a little along the klong and come back in.

I believe that a dispute over access rights to land was the cause of the cock up at the first check, but nevertheless at least half a dozen runners did complete the whole trail as set out. They were called into the circle by ‘Nogoodboyo’ as where the visitors including a special welcome to a couple who had survived the Tsunami at Phuket. Before the circle was revved up we all had a moment’s silence in respect for those in the Phuket area who had tragically lost those who were close to them.

The RA’s business was ably conducted firstly by ‘Knickerless’ ‘Sugar Daddy’ and ‘George of the Jungle’ who very cleverly juxtaposed Matt and Sugar Daddy in the circle as look-alikes for Victor Yushchenko and Viktor Yanukovych, contestants in the very recent Ukrainian elections. Oh so cruel Sir! There seemed to be no doubt about the POTW which went to ‘Hungry Bum’ for leading so many runners astray on the short inner loop. Finally, a good meal at the contiguous restaurant with a selection of Tiger and Heineken beers. Cheers Graeme for a good evening.
