The previous Monday the pack was stunned when our ever-youthful leader George Morgan announced that this week’s run was to celebrate his 50th birthday.  Next thing we know Crash Daily will be claiming she’s reached the ripe old age of 21.  It was one of those announcements where there is good news and bad news.  The good news was that to celebrate reaching his half century our GM GM was to sponsor T-shirts, beer, wine, food and music at the on-on-on, but the bad news was that we’d be running around the polluted crowded streets of governor Samak’s Bangkok.

Being the summer holiday season, it was a fairly modest pack that assembled around Noriega’s at 5:30, and the start was delayed slightly by the late arrival of Hash Piss who was looking for some strong Hashmen to carry the cooler full of beer and ice from the car park through the bar to Soi 4.  As was normal our GM wasn’t present to flag us off, though admittedly he had a better excuse this week than he normally has.  The trail took us along Silom Road past tourists bargaining over (non-existent) pirated DVDs and bemused office workers heading for home, to Rama IV road where we came to the first check.

The trail was soon found taking us into Lumphini Park, and the worst of the run was now over.  We zigzagged through the park, crossed over Wittayu Road on a footbridge, past the Polo Club and neighbourhood mosque, and up onto the Lumphini-Asoke cycleway.  A check just beyond the expressway had the pack stalled briefly, but Tie Me Up found the flour on the road heading towards Sukhumvit.  The trail took us past a new park being built by the army in the Tobacco Monopoly, and after a couple more checks we ended up at Soi Cowboy where the hare provided water.

We returned to Silom on the new B10 subway, much to the consternation of the travelling public who had to occupy space in the vicinity of a bunch of sweaty, dripping farangs.  A few hardy souls (or were they cheap Charlies?) ran back to Silom.

In the circle our GM GM awarded himself a down-down for being the hare, and later another for celebrating his 50th birthday.  There were some notable returners including Ichimura from Japan, and Frisky from Holland (or is it Vietnam?).  Frisky claimed to have been holidaying in the Netherlands but from her dark skin it seemed more likely she had taken a job in Isaan planting rice.  Visitors included a Hash virgin from the Philippines who had the handicap of having a first name with no vowels – Zrs.  The RA (Hash Hash) called him and another visitor from the Philippines into the circle for a down-down for letting the US down in Iraq.  A visitor hailing from Boston was called into the circle so the RA could attempt to teach her to speak like TQ (goodness only knows why).

During the circle there were various comments about the T-shirt design, with one ungrateful Hasher asking why there was a picture of Harry Potter on it, and another claiming it was a bit flattering around George’s nether region.

After the circle was over proceedings continued upstairs in Noriegas, where an excellent spread of various types of food was on offer accompanied by beer and wine.

Altogether an excellent evening, and we all look forward to celebrations for George’s full century in 50 year’s time (BMH3 run number 3721)!

OnOn.
