Next week's Hare wasn't at the run this week, so I thought that I had better step in and do a write-up before the on-sex press ganged her better half into doing it.

The Hare was Finn Sorensen, so the run was from the favourite Scandi location - Khrua Tung Luang restaurant on the outer ring road. Strange how certain nationalities like certain locations. If it is a Dutch run it will be from Pakkret, whereas the Scandinavians like the Outer Ring Road.

As is my habit, I waited outside the Landmark Hotel to solicit any other Hashers who might want to share a taxi to the run. There were spots of rain, and while I thought that we might get away from it by the time we got to the run a certain Scotsman thought it would be another wet run. As we headed east in our taxi the sky could hardly have been blacker, and before long the heavens opened. By chance we were travelling directly behind the heavily laden NoriegaMobile (many hands make light work when it needs to be pushed), and in his ignorance of the condition of the car (and driver) in front our taxi tailgated him for a lot of the journey.

By the time we reached the run site the sun hadn't quite come out, but the rain had almost stopped. The restaurant had changed radically since I last ran there. The land behind it has been churned up in preparation for yet another road, so some of the buildings had been moved to make way for it. AKM could see no purpose for the road which goes from nowhere to nowhere, and we concluded that its only possible purpose could be as a vehicle to launder money (heaven forbid).

As the time approached 5:30 there were quite a few Hashers milling around, including a few unfamiliar faces on a Monday run. Max was there, as was Jay Cooley who was coming to the end of his Amazing Thai holiday. The Bug made his first Monday appearance for some time, and Derek 'Muff Diver' Tavender was stopping over on his way from the UK to KL. I was accosted by returner Andy 'Swollen Member' Walsh who said it was 8½ years since he left Thailand. After spending a few wild years in Bangkok he settled down to be a building society (bank) manager in eastern England. Notably absent was the Vespa man Alastair, who is next week's hare. Perhaps his trusty steed had let him down in the torrential rain.

At 5:30 the GM called the pack to order and advised us the trail started off by going up the muddy road that was under construction, but that thinking Hashers could go up the road, turn into the wat and pick up the trail there. Surprisingly everyone present appeared to count themselves as a 'thinking hasher' and set off up the road - or was it just that they couldn't think and followed the herd? By now the rain had stopped, and as the trail was nearly all along klong paths the going was quite fast. I had never realised how many klongs there are in that area. There were frequent checks that were on the whole quickly solved, and the trail took short detours through moobans to get from one klong to another. Halfway round we passed the hare going in the other direction - he had been out replacing paper that might have been washed away in the rain. All in all a good run, especially given the weather.

Back at the beer wagon there were a few late arrivals - not surprisingly George of the Jungle. There seemed to be a larger than usual smoking contingent, but unfortunately Dr Death wasn't there to promote his wares. After a reasonable time the GM called us to the circle. The usual down downs took place, and then he followed the recent trend of trying to crack a few jokes - isn't this encroaching on the RA's duties? Given the pack's response I think that this trend might soon die out. The RA then entertained the gathered crowd and after a close contest Spinning Dwarf got PoW for the second week running. This week it was because he had overlooked the fact that it was the RA's 200th run.

OnOn to next weeks run at the Central Post Office.
